I never thought I’d be the type of person to spend my time writing a product review for strangers on the internet. But this product is so good I think I have to.
I live with two cats, and anyone else who lives with cats will understand what I mean when I say their hair is everywhere. I mean, EVERYWHERE. It gets all over the furniture and floors; it gets in my sheets, my clothes, and even my breakfast cereal.
For so long, I’ve resigned myself that living in fur is just the cost to pay for keeping kitties around, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t tried to find a solution. I think I’ve tried just about every vacuum and cleaning solution on the market, all with mediocre effects.
Until the Shark AI Ultra Robot.
I love so many things about this product, but I’ll start with the number one thing: It doesn’t miss a spot. The Shark Ultra Robot is a self-guided vacuum cleaner like a Roomba.
You turn it on, and it zooms all over your house, sucking up dust and dirt off the floors. But this vacuum utilizes “Matrix Clean Navigation” and “Precision Home Mapping” to ACTUALLY cover every square inch of the floor. Sometimes, I feel like it actually has eyes and can see all of my furniture and obstacles on the floor — spooky!
It doesn’t have eyes, though — it has AI. The reason it’s called the Shark AI Robot and not just the Shark Robot is that it learns your home’s layout during its first Explore Run, which you can set up in the app.
It’s SO cool. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to explore and learn where all your furniture is, how big your home is, etc., and then it remembers forever and knows exactly where to vacuum. Even on my best vacuuming days, I often still miss spots, and the cat hair and dust from those spots trigger my allergies and accumulate over time.
With the Shark AI Ultra Robot, I never worry about the far corners and tricky spots against the wall getting missed. The robot sees everything.
Another reason why it’s so effective is the powerful suction. I’ve tested several different vacuums, and I swear, I’ve never seen this kind of suction before. The Shark Ultra Robot is round, but it’s so powerful that it just pulls dust and dirt from square corners like it’s nothing.
If it misses a few crumbs or specks of lint on the first pass, it will notice that and come back to get them. (I’m telling you, it’s spooky! Like it has eyes!) I’ve also noticed that it uses targeted blasts of air to get particles out from corners and tight spots that it might be unable to squeeze under.
So rest assured that no matter what your floor layout looks like, this vacuum will be able to clean up and reach all of the dust and dirt.
Like many robot vacuums, you can automate the Shark AI Ultra Robot to clean on its own, even when you aren’t in the house. You can set up a cleaning schedule so that it vacuums at the same time each day or at a certain frequency each week. You can also use your Alexa (and, I believe, Google Home) to tell it to clean.
For instance, when I was on vacation a few weeks ago, I told my Alexa to tell my Shark Ultra to vacuum the house every other day at 2 p.m. Then, all I had to do was connect my Shark to my Alexa, and I was good to go. I might not have been home, but my cats still were, and thanks to my Shark (and Alexa), I didn’t have to worry about coming home to carpets covered in dandruff and fur.
The self-guided capability of this vacuum includes charging, which I had never seen before in a robot vacuum. Let me explain. It can vacuum for up to two hours before it needs charging, but what’s really cool is that when it senses running out of battery, it will drive itself over to its charging dock, recharge, and then resume cleaning whatever’s left.
I don’t even need to pay attention to when it’s running low on battery or moving it to and from the charging dock. It takes care of that all on its own. In addition to guiding itself around the house and keeping track of its own battery status, the Shark AI Ultra can also self-clean.
The brushroll it uses to roll up hair, lint, and fibers is self-cleaning, which allows it to last much longer without any maintenance. It also empties its own base of dirt and debris, no bags required. It’s basically the lowest-maintenance robot vacuum I’ve ever seen or experienced. As a busy person with a LOT of pet hair and dander to clean up, I greatly appreciate that.
The final thing that sold me on this product was the HEPA-grade filtration system. From what I understand, HEPA is the standard for air filtration systems — the filter in your AC system, car air filter, and any home air purifier should all be HEPA filters for the best results.
The Shark Ultra 2-in-1 Robot uses a HEPA filter, and you can absolutely tell. Once dust and cat hair is sucked up into this thing, it doesn’t come out. I have lots of allergies — I’m a sniffly gal — and trust me when I say that I’ve NOTICED a difference after running this all over my floors rather than my usual vacuum.
Okay, let’s discuss the elephant in the room: the cost. I normally would not be one to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on a vacuum, but this has been so worth it for so many reasons.
First, it’s a huge time saver. Having to vacuum less often would be great, but now, with my Shark, I don’t have to vacuum at ALL. To me, that alone makes the price point worth it. Second, the self-cleaning and self-charging capability saves me even more time and effort and basically means that aside from checking on it every week or so, I don’t have to conduct any maintenance at all.
Third, the cleaning quality is astounding for such a little robot vacuum. Thanks to the air-blasting feature, it gets every nook and cranny of my floor, almost definitely even better than I’m able to do on my own.
All of these features add up to supreme peace of mind. I don’t like sitting in my home knowing that cat hair is accumulating all around me and making me sneeze and that the only solution for it is near-constant vacuuming.
With my Shark AI Robot vacuum, I can rest easy knowing that that cat hair is essentially cleaning itself. My allergies are better; it takes me MUCH less time to clean up and prepare my home for guests, and thanks to the warranty that I added on, I don’t have to worry about replacing this vacuum for multiple years.
Maybe you’re not in the market for a fancy vacuum cleaner, or maybe you just can’t afford one right now, and that’s okay. But if you’ve been thinking about it for a while, I urge you to commit and buy this robot vacuum. I cannot recommend it enough.
